Gum Care Month

Did you know nearly half of adults aged 30 years and older in the United States have periodontitis? Taking good care of your gums is vital to your overall health, and thankfully, doing so is simple. Flossing and brushing every day may not be new news to you, but it's worth reiterating the power they hold in keeping gum disease at bay. By effectively removing plaque from your teeth, you prevent it from building up and turning into tartar. The problem with tartar is that it can only be removed by a dental professional, and, as it nears the gumline, the harmful bacteria can cause bleeding, inflammation, and irritation.

Here are a few simple tips to ensure you're taking the best care of your gums:

  • Angle your toothbrush to about a 45 degree angle against your gumline while you brush.

  • Don't forget to brush all sides of your teeth! In small circular movements, cover the outer, upper, lower, inside, and biting surfaces of your teeth.

  • When your floss reaches the gumline, gently curve it into a C-shape against each tooth in a 'rocking' motion.

  • Brush your tongue and don't rinse your mouth after brushing!

If you're experiencing swelling, bleeding, or any discomfort, we're here and happy to help. You can easily schedule an appointment below! We hope to see you soon.
