July 2023 Newsletter

Hydration, hydration, hydration.

We're officially over halfway through the year - can you believe it?! July is the perfect month to soak up the sun, enjoy in-season foods and BBQs, and see some fireworks with family and friends. But, with the rising temperatures comes a heightened importance for hydration! Did you know drinking enough water helps keep your teeth healthy? Here are a few fun facts about the relationship between the two that you may not know:

  • Staying hydrated can prevent gum disease: Dry gums tend to swell and recede away from your teeth. They also collect plaque bacteria that cause gingivitis. When you drink lots of water, your gums will remain more hydrated and comfortable.

  • Water can keep your mouth clean: Water, because of its zero-calorie and zero-sugar nature, helps to wash away any residue or debris from food which leaves nothing for the bacteria to feast on!

  • Studies show that 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated: Consuming water-rich foods, such as any fruit or vegetable, is an effective way to increase your water intake. (So don't skip past that juicy watermelon or summer salad!)

As always, we're here to help keep your smile bright and healthy. When it's time, you can schedule an appointment at the button below - we hope to see you soon!

Planning a trip to the lake or flying somewhere tropical this Summer?! Wherever the season may take you, keep these quick tips in mind when packing or indulging on vacation!

  1. Opt for a straw at the restaurant for those sugary drinks! This will help decrease staining and slow down tooth damage.

  2. Cut back on carbonation and drink water throughout the day. The acids in carbonated drinks can contribute to wearing down tooth enamel and leave you more susceptible to developing cavities.

  3. Don't forget to pack a travel-sized mouthwash and floss!

  4. Snag some fruit for your poolside or road-trip snack. It's a great, refreshing way to help satisfy occasional sugar cravings.

We now have a CBCT in-house! No more visits to other providers for a 3D scan of your jaw. In the next few weeks, the manufacturer will be training our staff to use the software to its full capabilities.
